This is a large sign above a fancy dress shop here in Jeddah. Notice how the female models’ faces have been dealt with, and also notice the black color that has been applied to the arms, shoulders and bosom where there was just too much skin showing. I’m actually surprised that the lower arms weren’t colored in as well. Magazines, books, and product packaging with female images on them are also frequently censored in this manner here in Saudi Arabia.
About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby and teenage son. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.
Please be sure to also visit my other blog, SUSIE'S BIG ADVENTURE, which relates my experiences, thoughts, and observations about living in Saudi Arabia.

I’m from Jeddah and I find it very offensive!
I understand the religious objection to images, but one wonders why it is just women? In this case why obscure the face but not the figure? It just doesn’t make sense at all.
I know, Jerry – I will never understand so much of this…
weird. why not the whole arm?
Your guess would be as good as mine. Arms are supposed to be covered down to the wrists here.
