About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby and teenage son. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.
Please be sure to also visit my other blog, SUSIE'S BIG ADVENTURE, which relates my experiences, thoughts, and observations about living in Saudi Arabia.

These rugs are strong and versatile. I see nothing unusual about putting one on the beach. Actually, the image seems romantic.
Hi Marahm – I think that in the West, people consider these rugs more formal, and I don’t think there are many Western families that would use this type of rug for a picnic on the beach, or use them at all outside. Maybe in KSA these rugs are much more readily available, relatively inexpensive and numerous that they are used for outdoor outings more commonly.
The little boy’s stance is so cute.
It looks like a hard place to sit. Is there any place with sand near the city?
Hi Dina – Much of the coastline is paved, but there are areas where there is just sand.
I cannot imagine what kind of reaction I would get if I took a carpet such as that beauty to the lake in the summer!
Wow – that looks like quite a fancy rug to be using instead of beach towels!
To Leif and Kate – It’s very common that the Saudis take these carpets like this to sit on at the beach. I was stunned the first time I saw it myself.
