Mosques are distinctive by their minarets. Most minarets are topped off with a crescent moon shape, which has come to symbolize Islam. The crescent moon plays an important role in the religion. The sighting of the new crescent moon with the naked eye marks the end of Ramadan, the month long fasting period when Muslims do not eat or drink during the daylight hours.
About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby and teenage son. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.

I am muslim, and the crescent in the minaret means absolutely nothing to me. Using crescent as symbol of islam is funny thing. I think most muslims share me this and crescent means nothing to them earthier. Unlike cross to christians.
Is that a store selling minarets? Like you might put one on your roof?
Yes, it sells minaret toppers. I guess anyone could buy them and place them on their roof, but then people might think it’s a mosque instead of your house!
I really like those minaret toppers! I’m quite sure that we don’t have such a store here in EAGAN!
I’d be really surprised if you did, Leif!!!
