Gateway to Jeddah

2008-DSCF3613 1 (2)

Until about 50 years ago, Jeddah was a completely walled in city with large entry gates to the north, east, south and west, which were closed at night so no one could leave or enter the city. Today the wall and its gates no longer stand due to the phenomenal growth that pushed Jeddah’s boundaries far beyond the original walls. This gate is one of several newly built symbolic gates around the city to represent Jeddah’s history and heritage.
