During Ramadan – the month out of the year when all Muslims fast during the daylight hours – this carnival ride is set up in an empty lot in downtown Jeddah to give free rides to children. As you can see, it is deserted during the day, but once the sun goes down and the fast is broken, people will swarm this area with their kids to have a little fun. Ramadan is a time for sharing food and wealth, when Muslims remember those less fortunate than they are. Personally I would have doubts about the safety of riding this contraption. And note the sand bags at the base of the legs.
About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby and teenage son. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.
Please be sure to also visit my other blog, SUSIE'S BIG ADVENTURE, which relates my experiences, thoughts, and observations about living in Saudi Arabia.
