Another old shopping area in Old Jeddah is called Hindawiyya, which is known for the availability of everything you could possibly need for sewing, crafts, or beading. A maze of hundreds of little shops in this section of town bustles with activity, connected by tunnel-like alleyways. The selection is overwhelming. Some shops specialize more in sewing needs, like fabrics, trims, buttons, threads, sequins, feathers, and scissors. Other shops offer crystals, glassor plastic beads, and jewelry findings. I’ve noticed that most businesses here seem to be over-staffed, likely due to cheap foreign labor. These chaps were all identically clad, and they all smiled at me AFTER I took the photo.
About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby and teenage son. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.
Please be sure to also visit my other blog, SUSIE'S BIG ADVENTURE, which relates my experiences, thoughts, and observations about living in Saudi Arabia.
