Fruit Boat Sculpture

Giving new meaning to the term “Fruit Boat,” this larger than life sculpture in Jeddah is one of many sculptures around the city that make use of actual ships or aircraft.  The massive scale of this work of art can be determined by the car parked in front of it.  There are actually pieces of large scale fruit on the ground on the other side of the sculpture, appearing like overflow from the filled fruit boat.  Whenever I see this sculpture, I am reminded of a carved out watermelon fruit bowl filled with a variety of fresh fruits.  Jeddah is home to the world’s largest free public open air art museum featuring works of art created by artists from around the globe.

Ship of Fruits instead of Ship of Fools – great idea!

  2. That really is an amazing piece of art. It’s sort of whimsical.

I came for Sky Watch but this is amazing. I knew it couldn’t be real because of the size but, my word, what a sculpture. If I saw it for real I think I would laugh..

Surprised that they let the artist make this.

It was against Wahabi Islam to allow sculptures!?
