That’s Entertainment!

Amusement Area in Mall
Amusement Area in Mall

At first glance, you might think you are looking at an amusement park.  You are correct.  However this amusement park is actually located right inside one of the many malls in Jeddah – and entertainment areas such as this are standard fare for most malls here.  This is just a small part of the large area.  Since there is not much for women to do in Arabia except shop, and there is not that much for kids to do either, shopping malls have discovered that mixing an amusement area for kids with the shopping experience for women is a match made in heaven.   Many Saudi women employ maids or nannies, so oftentimes you will see the women leisurely shopping while the nannies are in the entertainment area watching the kids.   This photo was taken in the brand new Mall of Arabia, an expansive and gorgeous mall which is still partially not finished yet.

I am not a mall person but I suppose in the middle east where one needs to stay out of the scorching sun, this is a good idea. Nice shot.

    See you next week.

    that was very pretty!

  3. The temperature must be much nicer inside the mall than outside…just like here in Canada. I’m not a shopper but I can understand why women with tons of money and not many other choices for entertaiment might like to spend a lot of time here.

This is a very interesting picture. My brother lives in the UAE and has shown me pictures of the mall that has a snowy hill with skiing options. I avoid our malls as much as possible.

A mall without Christams decorations. Now that’s a concept.

Shopping mall really have taken over the world but the clothes and imagery lets me know this is not my part of the world.

  7. Hi JM – It actually IS inside a huge mall. And this is just a very small part of the entertainment area.

Hi Elaine – It is kept nice and cool, and on really hot days, it’s a great escape for the whole family.

Hi Marahm – You wouldn’t believe the malls here now. And they just keep building more and more – each outdoing the other. Just since I arrived here a little over a year ago, I can think of at least three of these uber-mega-malls that have opened just in Jeddah alone.

Hi GeoGypsy – Thanks so much. I’m really enjoying your blog too since I have very deep roots in Arizona.

I’m not really much for malls, but whatever works for entertainment. It does look like a fun place to play. I do enjoy your view of Arabia.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  9. Marahm says:

Wow! I’d love to see THIS. When I lived in Riyadh, there were only two malls, very ordinary by comparison, but we loved them!

  10. Elaine says:

The shelter must improve the hours of climate control available for enjoying the place.

The photo is really cool! It looks like a huge mall.
