Jasmine Leis

dscf5166-1-copyWhenever we are out and about in the city of Jeddah, once the car stops at a red light there are usually vendors of all kinds who will approach the car, similar to the States with the newspaper vendors and charity collectors. Here in Saudi Arabia you’ll find young kids selling gum or candy, or men selling water bottles, kids’ toys, or other items. This guy is selling fragrant leis made of jasmine flowers for 5 Saudi Riyals, which is about $1.25 US. I’m not sure how much fresh leis cost in Hawaii, but I’m sure it’s considerably more.

L’Occitane came out with a jasmine fragrance recently but there’s still nothing like the naturally infused essence … and the flowers,
    much preferred.

I wonder if there is a typical occasion when these are worn. I’ve seen pictures from India where wedding parties have marigold ones. I’ll bet they smell good.
