I’m Not Sure What This Is…

OK, I’m open to any suggestions on what this is and what it is for. Here’s a close-up…
A three sided cubicle barely big enough for one person standing or sitting, it has one open side, which is the side you are viewing. There is a chair sitting inside it and there is a privacy screen where a person can see out but wouldn’t be visible from the outside. It is located close to a very busy street and is equipped with an electrical outlet. The unusual structure appears to be built of wood and is elevated off the ground for a few inches. My hubby thinks it might be for a security guard or night watchman, but it’s far enough away from businesses that I don’t know if that makes sense. Any guesses?

Hi, I am from there and I could assure its a security gaurd booth … by the way you have a really great collection of pictures

In Lebanon, these are everywhere, but painted red and white for Lebanese soldiers to check cars as the pass by. There used to be tons of them everywhere for checkpoints during the civil war. Now they are here and there, depending on the area and the situation. Not sure why that would be in Saudi….probably is for a watchman or security guard!

  3. Candace says:

In Cairo, soldiers sit in them to keep watch. They are also used for watchmen and security guards, like your husband says 🙂

Susie: I agree with Gaelyn, a place for the parking attendant.

  5. Bas says:

Yup. Were you standing on a parking lot when you took this picture?

It looks like its sitting on a parking lot or the entrance to a building because I see a gate to the far left of the picture. It could very well be for a watchman or guard.

I saw this with so little knowledge of that world but here goes…. I think it is a place to lock up a woman while her male family member escort goes across the street to do some shopping. Maybe? Probably not but I understand women face very tight restrictions. Anyway, the idea did pop into my head.

I think it’s where a parking lot attendent sits, out the rain or sun, listening to his radio. LOL No idea.

It makes me think of a Catholic confessional, just ripped out of church. The priest enters, sits down…the parishioner approaches on the other side of the privacy screen. Only that doesn’t quite make sense in Saudia Arabia…
