Julio Lafuente was one of the most prolific sculptors commissioned by the city of Jeddah for its massive beautification program several decades ago. This bronze piece called “Koranic Verse” is located along the Corniche which extends for miles and miles along the Jeddah’s Red Sea coast. In stunningly graceful calligraphic script, the Islamic verse written in Arabic translates to “Surely thou art upon a mighty morality.” I asked for my husband’s interpretation and he said that Allah is speaking about or to Mohammed, saying that he is of superior morals.
I have featured several of Lafuente’s sculptures in previous posts. Click on the links below to see more of this talented artist’s works in Jeddah.
The Dallah Fountain, The Holy Koran, The Mameluke Lanterns, The Bicycle, The Illuminated Globe, The Verse Boat, and Science and Religion.
About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.
Please be sure to also visit my other blog, SUSIE OF ARABIA (formerly SUSIE'S BIG ADVENTURE), which relates my experiences, thoughts, and observations about living in Saudi Arabia.
