This is a pretty common sight here in Saudi Arabia. Men hanging out all over the place on the streets, and rarely a woman in sight, except if you go to the malls or supermarkets. Many times when I accompany my husband in the car to take my son to school, I feel as though I am the only woman out at that hour of the morning. It’s rare if I spot another woman in a car or on the street. So the men either gather on the curbs and sidewalks, or sit in chairs outside of businesses or in the back of pick-up trucks like this, just hanging around.
About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.
Please be sure to also visit my other blog, SUSIE OF ARABIA (formerly SUSIE'S BIG ADVENTURE), which relates my experiences, thoughts, and observations about living in Saudi Arabia.

they are labor waiting for some one to pick them for labor any job they can do.
Yes that’s true. However, it seems that the guys in your photo are all forign labour having some time off, which is again a very common sight in some Jeddah streets.
Don’t also forget the extreme weather conditions out there, very hot and humid. A woman wouldn’t enjoy that much, would she?
Susie,
Is there a problem with your other blog. It seems to be blocked for some strange reason. Can you please check

The absence of women in public in the Muslim world, is somethat that I have a hard time getting used to. It isn’t just Saudi Arabia. Some years ago, I saw a documentary program that included a section on Muslim China and women were more or less absent there too.
And they’re all dressed so normally.

Normal? Oh – the irony!
