My World: Truck Reflection

Rain is scarce here in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, so when it does rain, I try to catch photos that I might not otherwise be able to. I liked the reflection this blue and red truck created in the big rain puddle on the ground. This truck is parked in a vacant corner lot of a densely populated residential area of Jeddah. There are apartment buildings all around it. Unfortunately an undeveloped empty lot serves as a dumping ground for anything and everything in an area like this. You can see the huge pile of rubble behind the truck to the left and garbage all around. This is one thing that bothers me about Jeddah – the rubble and trash everywhere. Not only does it look awful, but it’s a health hazard as well. I wish something could be done about it, but nobody seems to care, not even the many people who live in the buildings right next door to unsightly scenes like this. I understand that it’s costly to haul the rubble off to wherever and that the neighbors likely don’t own the property so they don’t feel that they should be obliged to clean it up. And the owner of the land certainly didn’t give his permission for all the rubble to be dumped in his lot. So this is a vicious cycle of a problem here and it won’t be cleaned up until this plot of land is developed. And then what will happen is that the rubble will be hauled off to the closest empty lot nearby. And so the cycle continues…

You a lie! This aint no rain pond! It’s a MUSK pond… get it? – M.u.s.k p.o.n.d, like the lil’ streems that flow from underneath! We’ve got zillions of them here, zillions of them!

The reflection is very cool, nice picture.

Did you capture any photos of the rain itself?
