The long white traditional dress that Saudi men wear is called a thobe. Thobes are custom made to fit each individual. Consequently there are hundreds upon hundreds (or more like thousands upon thousands!) of shops in Saudi Arabia that specialize in custom made thobes for men. You can find a thobemaker on almost every block where there are businesses. The customer will choose from among hundreds of bolts of fabric and from dozens of shades of white and off-white, and will decide on details such as the collar and pockets, buttons or snaps, and decorative trim. Thobes are worn with loose fitting elastic waist pants underneath, and most men also wear an undershirt as well.
About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.
Please be sure to also visit my other blog, SUSIE OF ARABIA (formerly SUSIE'S BIG ADVENTURE), which relates my experiences, thoughts, and observations about living in Saudi Arabia.
