SkyWatch: Minaret in the Sky

Besides the amazing sculptures all over the city of Jeddah, I also have a thing for the minarets of the many mosques around here. Mosques are everywhere – every couple of blocks you can find one. The minarets are usually topped off with a crescent moon, which has become symbolic of Islam. The holy month of Ramadan when all good Muslims fast during the daylight hours is determined by the phases of the moon. I liked this shot of the minaret floating against the cloudy sky and the stark contrast of the heaviness of the overhang of the building.
I’d like to wish you Peace and Blessings during this special season and to thank you for visiting my blog throughout the year.

Beautiful shot. Minarets, like bell towers, remind me we are reaching. We want more. We know there is more. They are inspiring.

I am a minaret fan too. A series would be great, like your sculpture series.

Libyan-American blogger KhadijaTeri has a lighthouse series going on. It becomes interesting in itself.

Susie: Very nicely captured with this sky photo of the mosque.

That minaret looks like a rocket with loudspeakers.

I can see the crescent on top of it.

I enjoyed the small patch of purple roof.

I wish you peace and blessings also.

Nice picture. The minaret is modern looking. Those loudspeakers look pretty powerful.

This morning I posed for a blog photo with a Santa Claus named Issa who was giving away Christmas trees. 🙂
It is a nice season, even for us who do not celebrate the holiday itself.
