On the Fringe

Many trucks and larger vehicles here in Saudi Arabia sport a type of valance across the top of the front windshields. My guess would be that either the normal sun visors broke off or that there just weren’t any to start with, so the short little curtain is to help block the sun. Another possible explanation might be that it is just simply to make the truck feel more homey because the driver spends a lot of time in truck, but I think the first reason is more likely. This valance is trimmed with fringe as many that I have seen are. I don’t really recall seeing something like this in the states but maybe I am just a little more observant here!

Observant is the word for you, Susie. Lucky for us.

I remember several decades ago when the Arab trucks were still decorated like that. No more. I kind of miss it.

I’ve seen this in the Philippines. I dismissed it as another way to “pimp their ride”. Maybe it has something to do with blocking the sun too, who knows.

Yap, you are observant, as you should. After all you are a blogger.

The fringed shad is probably a way to shade the sun. No, I have not seen this type of shade on the front windshields of any vehicle in the United States; not even Florida where it is hot and sunny most of the time.
