Unfortunately I cannot supply any information about this unusual fountain. I can tell you that there are many fountain sculptures in Jeddah, many of which I have featured previously on this blog. I can also tell you that this particular fountain is much more beautiful when the water is spraying than when it is not. It looks like some kind of spaceship to me when the fountain is not operating. Many of the sculptures and fountains around Jeddah serve as landmarks, since addresses are generally not used in this city.
About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.
Please be sure to also visit my other blog, SUSIE OF ARABIA (formerly SUSIE'S BIG ADVENTURE), which relates my experiences, thoughts, and observations about living in Saudi Arabia.

basically this is outside the gates of the King’s palace, so its normally called the King’s fountains since they are outside the entrance, its in the murjan district on king aziz road.
Thank you, Wafi!
Good to be seeing this fountain at its best. I think your photo frames it very well and adds colour from the promenade and the sky. Nice!
Yes, I can imagine that it’s not very attractive without the water.
I’m surprised and amazed about the lack of addresses! So how does one mail stuff to people there?
Apparently there are street addresses, but no one really uses them. I didn’t even know our building had a number until about one month ago, and I still don’t know the name of the street we live on. Everyone I know of uses a P O Box to receive mail. Directions are given by using landmarks and counting blocks or buildings – like turn right at the orange coffee cup shaped building, then follow that road until the first street where you can turn right, and then it’s the fourth building on the right, the one with the copper colored windows.
I just marvel at all the water fountains and sculptures in Jeddah! You people there are very lucky to have so much art sprinkled around town!

It looks gigantic.
