I thought you might like to see this – Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in Arabic here in Saudi Arabia. This is a contestant on the show. The set, the music, the audience, the suspense, and the way the show is conducted is all very similar to the American version. Below is the host of the show.

About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.
Please be sure to also visit my other blog, SUSIE OF ARABIA (formerly SUSIE'S BIG ADVENTURE), which relates my experiences, thoughts, and observations about living in Saudi Arabia.

Its filmed in UAE or Lebanon, the presenter is well known in the middle East, his name is George and is from Lebanon.
Thanks for the info, Leila.
It would be interesting to view a couple of shows, with English subtitles, to get a better understanding of the culture.
On the US “Who Wants to Be…”, most of the questions are based on knowing US Culture, History, Movies, Hit Songs, Books, etc. and they range from the really easy (=everyone should know), to the tougher ones.
I’d be real interested to see some of their easier questions as a way of understanding what they take for granted people there should know. Also, what questions are the real stumpers.
I wish there were English subtitles with the Arabic shows here but there are not usually. There is even a channel now that consists of Western shows and movies that is totally dubbed into Arabic – it would be great to have English subtitles for this channel. I would be more inclined to watch if there were English subtitles and it would make it so much easier to pick up more of the language this way.
The question on this screen is asking what a certain type of person is called in classical Arabic – my husband says there is no word in English to describe it. So I’m guessing that most of the questions are specific to the region, which makes total sense. I think it would be fun to see what the simpler questions they ask are too, and the hard ones too.
Amazing how some things work all over the world…
Very interesting. Did anyone get close to winning the million?
aloha,
wow, it looks like commercial tv shows transcends all boundaries….too funny!
Very interesting, Susie, as all of your posts are! Hope you have great week!
Sylvia
Yes, I do! Thanks for sharing that. Very interesting.
That certainly is interesting.
I have to assume there can be no women contestants.
I think I have seen women contestants on the show before, so more than likely, the show might actually be taped in another Middle Eastern country nearby. I know there are women sitting in the audience, so that alone would indicate to me that it’s not filmed in KSA because of the strict gender segregation here. I would guess it’s taped in UAE or Qatar or some place like that.
