Satellite television is very popular in the Middle East. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has a small government owned broadcasting network that offers a handful of channels of programming that produce various talk shows (many of them focused on religion), educational shows, religion, news, religion, sports, religion, cooking, religion, health, and did I mention religion? KSA also receives satellite programs from many Middle Eastern, European, and other countries around the world, that add other types of programming into the mix such as music, soap operas, travel, and game shows, and yes, more religion. There is also a fair amount of popular American programming available, with such shows as Oprah, American Idol, Good Morning America, Glee, Jeopardy!, CSI, Boston Legal, Nip/Tuck, Everybody Loves Raymond, Castle, Wheel of Fortune, Law and Order, According to Jim, Saturday Night Live, Big Love, Ugly Betty, Beauty and the Geek, Hannah Montana, and a wide variety of children’s programs, news and talk shows, and sports. Satellite dishes are everywhere here in Jeddah. Many buildings are topped off with several dishes, and even the most rundown dilapidated hovels sport their own satellite dishes. The dishes shown here are located in a highly industrial area of Jeddah.
About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby and teenage son. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.
Please be sure to also visit my other blog, SUSIE'S BIG ADVENTURE, which relates my experiences, thoughts, and observations about living in Saudi Arabia.
