Al-Balad is the oldest section of Jeddah and is also where the oldest souks are as well. Every night, the old souks are full of people (mostly men) shopping – and this is where the best bargains can be found. One can buy gold, incense, herbs and other food items, clothing, shoes, electronics, household items – and the list is endless. On the right is an abaya shop which sells the long black cloaks that all women in the country must wear when they are out in public. On the top left you can see the old style latticed window coverings called Roshan. Nearly all the shoppers in this photo are men – there is a totally veiled woman in the lower left quadrant of the photo. Do you see her?

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.

I do see her, but I had to look hard.
(I put this comment on the wrong photo, silly me.)
This is beautiful! I envy that you were able to go there. The most similar thing to this that I have been to in Riyadh is Batha, but it is all wholesale!
