Just Waiting

All shops in Saudi Arabia are required by law to close for the five daily prayers every day. This shot was taken at about 2pm and all the men standing around the closed up shops are waiting for them to open back up. Businesses close for about an hour or so for each prayer time. It’s rather difficult to get used to this kind of schedule…

UPDATE 2020 – Some businesses no longer close for prayer times here in Saudi Arabia. Many still do however.

  3. Many businesses close for longer periods in the afternoons, instead of closing, opening, closing. opening, etc. It is difficult to get used to shops being closed in the middle of the day when you’re not used to it. I don’t really know who the people in the photo are or what they are doing – I was just driving by. I do see people waiting around for shops to open back up quite frequently.
