Mall Mural: Selling Fruit


Two women draped in the traditional black abaya (cloak), hijab (head scarf) and niqaab (face veil) sit on the ground selling fruit in this painting. I’m guessing that the men in this picture are coming out of a mosque and the women hope to make some sales. It is very typical for small-time vendors to set up shop outside mosques here. This painting is one of many works of fine art that were blown up and hung over unoccupied shop windows in a local shopping mall.

    It looks like men’s fashions have changed since then, but not much the women’s.

    Such an interesting series this is.

    I have always wondered who the artist was that drew these amazing paintings at Roshan Mall, ever since I came here 2 years ago.

    • I’m pretty sure that these paintings were done by a variety of artists, and not just one. I was actually stopped from taking photos there by a security guard, even though it’s in an area where not a lot of people wander. In fact, I was the only person in that area at the time…
