Thanks, LadyFi – My hubby is doing much better. He’s put some weight back on, but he still keeps pulling out that “woe is me, poor heart patient” card on me! He’s mostly kidding though.
King Faisal Hospital in Riyadh has two small, detached mosques with women’s areas for prayer. It also has various rooms inside the hospital where employees and visitors alike can do their prayers.
This photo is gorgeous. Hospitals SHOULD be beautiful, and the Saudis know how to do it.
When I was in Italy five years ago, I visited my cousin in a large hospital in Bari. The place looked just like a hospital out of the American fifties– all white and utilitarian, clean, of course, like all things Italian, but certainly lacking in the Italian flair for style.
I’ll take a Saudi hospital any day, and also because I know that good medicine is practiced there.
Thanks, Marahm – I’m sure there has to be a women’s prayer room in this hospital as well – I’ve just never seen it. I think the trend is definitely heading away from the functional “institutional” style of decades ago – thank goodness!

Yes, Leif – there is a large prayer room/mosque are inside the hospital. Pretty much all public buildings have a designated area where men can pray. I have tried taking photos of it but I haven’t been able to get a very good shot yet. I’ll keep trying!
