A typical neighborhood mosque – this one has two minarets with green glass windows. Most mosques here have minarets with green glass or green lights which make them highly visible, although some are lit up in white or possibly another color. I was told that the green color originated in Turkey and caught on here in Arabia. Look closely – you can see the speakers mounted on the minaret which broadcast the calls to prayer five times a day.
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.

No, it is NOT true that men are forced to go to mosque during prayer times. However, I have read accounts of men being harassed/and or hurt physically by muttawa if they happen to be out and about when prayers are called. One man even said he was on his way to mosque and the muttawa wouldn’t listen to him; they just beat him. I don’t know that these accounts are true. I see men out all the time. I think it’s best to steer clear of the muttawa no matter what time of day it is!
