Much of the public art in Jeddah is interactive and invites people to use it, touch it, sit on it, or play on it. This is one such piece. This octopus is made of local stone but I don’t know who designed it. I love seeing the Red Sea in the background. The sea is one of the themes of the many sculptures in Jeddah. There are other sculptures on the Corniche that are designed with similar stones in cement like this. FYI – I’ve organized all the amazing public art of Jeddah that I have posted on this blog (more than 75 so far!) onto one page for your convenience. The link is just below the header at the top and it’s called Sculptures of Jeddah. Check it out!

About This Blog, and About Me: Susie of Arabia
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is KSA's 2nd largest city and is located on its west coast, right on the Red Sea. I moved here in 2007 with my Saudi hubby. This journal reflects the things that I see here, life through my eyes, my lens.
Please be sure to also visit my other blog, SUSIE OF ARABIA (formerly SUSIE'S BIG ADVENTURE), which relates my experiences, thoughts, and observations about living in Saudi Arabia.

I often went to sea side but I never seen this, its really great
Nice!!!
Looks like great fun, and in keeping with its location.
“It looks like a maze and sometimes we run through it” – said my 4 year old daughter sitting on my lap helping me to comment on blogs!
Very interesting and pretty shot. I love sculpture that can be climbed, sat on, laid on, looked at especially so close to the sea.
I like this one a lot! Beautiful shot with the sea in the background.
That looks like a fun and inviting thing to climb on. Plus go swimming too. I’d love to see a pic of you sitting on it.
I don’t have many photos of me in the scenery – I’m always the one taking the pics!!!
Kids must love it.
Tamnun?
Nice. I’d like to play on that with my grandsons. . .
BTW, did you read about the huge amount of dead octopuses that washed up on a Portuguese beach this week?
Oh what a shame! I’ll look it up – thanks.
wonderful octopus and such blue warm skies!
Hi Susie!!! I love this shot … the detail of the octopus rally makes you look!!! Great shot!

That sculpture is great! I am very jealous of the blue sea and sky – cold and snowy in London at present!
It’s amazing how much the city has invested in the beautification of the city by scattering art/sculpture all over. It makes for a very interesting city, I thought.
Interesting, I bet children like the climb on it. Can little girl children play in public or just boys?
Little girls can play just like little boys, until they begin to hit puberty. Then have to cover up and cannot mix with the opposite sex anymore.
